• Obituary: Sabine Index, 12 Oct 1994. Gracie Jewel Howard Buckelew Gracie Jewel Howard Buckelew of Jonesboro, La., died October 7, 1994, at 82 years, at her home. She was born August 31, 1912, in Pleasant Hill, Sabine Parish, to "Jim" James S. and Emma Russell Howard. She is survived by three sons, Bob and wife Marszella Buckelew of Winnfield; Jimmy and wife Jo Buckelew of Jonesboro, and Tim and wife Pam Buckelew of Jonesboro; seven daughters, Virginia and husband Hoyt Clark of Many; Elouise and husband Wallace Potter of Many; Louise and husband Ray Ross of Bossier City, June and husband Odis Fontenot of Sulphur, Jessie Buckelew of Jonesboro, Hazel and husband Charlie Israel of Ukiah, Calif., and Doris and husband Robert Jimerson of Bossier City; one brother, "Bob" R. V. and wife Katie Howard of Many. She was preceded in death by her husband, Porter A. Buckelew; two grandchildren, Joseph Potter, and Ronald Buckelew; one great grandson, Christian Scott Lee; and her favorite aunt, Beatrice Snider, who had died 3 days earlier. She is survived by ten children; thirty four grandchildren; sixty eight great grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren. Burial was in the Gayla Triana Cemetery of Jonesboro. Funeral services were conducted by Bishop Garr of Winnfield. "Families Can Be Together Forever" was sung by the Jonesboro-Hodge choir of the L.D.S. Church. Her grave was dedicated by her son-in-law, Elder Wallace Potter, with her great grandson-in-law, Elder Wm. Danny Foreman of Ocean Springs, Miss., giving the opening prayer, and Sister Dorothy Moreau giving the closing prayer. Grandsons and great grandsons were pallbearers, Larry Lee, Richard Lee, Jeffery Potter, Randy Buckelew, Tommy Chandler, Stacy Coughlin, Mark Monroe, Jeremy Gray, Craig Fontenot, and Bryan Fontenot.
Grace married Porter Authur Buckelew, son of William Franklin 'Frank' Buckelew and Frances Mellisa 'Fannie' Harkins, on 3 Oct 1933 in LA. (Porter Authur Buckelew was born on 5 Jan 1905 in Colfax, Grant Parish, LA, died on 7 Jul 1990 in Jonesboro, Jackson Parish, LA and was buried in Gayla Traina Cemetery, Jackson Parish, LA.)
