• Obituary, 2008. Margaret Alyce Harman Hill Smith
Margaret was born September 4, 1938 in Elmore City, OK to Buddy and Marie (Rankin) Harman. Margaret fought a long hard battle with diabetes and other related health issues -- but finally gave in to go home to the Lord on February 1, 2008.
Margaret was a devoted wife, mother, nanny and sister. She is loved very much by her family and friends -- she will be missed more than she will ever know.
Margaret lived most of her life in the Purcell/Lexington area. She worked many years in the food service industry. Later, she became a housemom for Phi Kappa Alpha.
Besides cooking for family and her boys at the fraternity, Margaret loved to fish. Whether it was pond-hopping around Elmore City, camping at Elmore City Lake or the Washita River, trips to Bull Shoals in Arkansas, or even all the way to the ocean in Houston, Margaret had a special rod and special bait to hook that big one. Now with her heavenly body she doesn't need a special rod or bait, she has a golden rod and she is fishing from a golden pond with the rest of her heavenly family.
Margaret was preceded in death by her mother in 1981, one husband Curtis Hill, Sr. in 1995, her daddy and sister Juanita Graham in 2000, and her sister Mary Helm in 2006.
She is survived by; husband Vernon of Norman, one daughter Delores Smith and husband Raymond of Oklahoma City, two step-sons Bob Smith and wife Sherry of Broken Arrow, Mike Smith and wife Teresa of Oklahoma City, one granddaughter Misty Spencer and husband Brain of Oklahoma City, six step-grandchildren Lynnie Smith of Duran, NC, Jennifer Sims and husband Eddie of Norman, Ryan Smith of Broken Arrow, Sean Smith, Patricia Newman and husband Mike, Richard Smith and wife Jasa all of Oklahoma City, four great-grandchildren Lane, Brooklyn, and Brendan (Bubba) Cline and Trenton Smith, seven step-great-grandchildren Rose, Candis, Kathern, Zeus, Hercules, Jayla, and Leann.
Margaret is also survived by; three sisters Sandra Kelley and husband G. W. of Kingston, Rita Stowe and her husband Charlie of Guthrie, and Paula Chaney and her husband Thomas of Marietta, two brothers, Jimmy Harman and wife Sue of Oilton and Johnny Harman and wife Jacklyn of Elmore City, two brothers-in-law Asa Smith of Norman and Lewis Smith and wife Carol of Bartlesville, several nieces and nephews and a host of close friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Smith are scheduled for Monday, February 4, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in the Elmore City First Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Elmore City Cemetery under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home. You may send a condolence to the family at www.woosterfuneralhomes.com.
