Elijah James "E J" Buchanan

• Obituary. Funeral services for E. J. Buchanan were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2000 at First Presbyterian Church in Winnfield, LA. Officiating were Rev. Leland McCullough and Dr. Calvin Phelps. Interment followed in the Garden of Memories under the direction of Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield.

Mr. Buchanan, age 93 of Winnfield, passed away at 3 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2000 at the Winn Parish medical center. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and owned and operated Winn Cash Grocery form [sic from] 1939-1968.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma D. Buchanan of Winnfield, LA; his brothers, Arnold Buchanan of Joyce, LA and Robert Buchanan of Winnfield, LA; two sisters, Viola Jones of Colfax, LA and Pearl Lasiter of Winnfield, LA and several nieces and nephews.

Elijah married Thelma Deen, daughter of Wilton Prestridge Deen and Ida Elizabeth Albright. (Thelma Deen was born on 5 Feb 1910, died on 15 Aug 2001 and was buried in Garden of Memories, Winn Parish, LA.)
