• Obituary. LaQuita Joye Simmons, 91, of Shreveport, LA, passed away February 21, 2025.
LaQuita was a retired bookkeeper and was lovingly referred to as a "Southern Belle" when she worked for the phone company. She enjoyed working in her many flower gardens and was a lover of all things outdoors, be it feeding her box turtles that returned year after year or simply enjoying the wildlife in her yard.

She was truly a farmer's daughter. LaQuita lived life "big" in her own simple way. She brought so much love and joy to those she was around. LaQuita was one of those rare finds in life and just made you wish you'd have known her sooner.

Preceding LaQuita in death is her husband of 68 years, Morris T. Simmons; son, David Simmons; brothers, Clayton L. Murry, Jr., Joseph Arnell Murry, and James R. Murry; sister, Rose M. Chessher; and her parents, C.L. and Lydia Murry. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Tim Simmons and wife Edna of Columbus, OH, and Kenneth Simmons and wife Terry of Walsenburg, CO; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; along with the three guys she thought the world of, and they absolutely adored her; great nephew, Dustin Bond; and great-great-nephews, Dylan and Daniel Bond.

LaQuita was indeed the Matriarch of our family, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A very special thanks is extended to her nephew, Dennis Bond and his wife Tana, for all the love and care they showed her. They worked hard to try to spoil her rotten and she loved it. Thank you also to her niece, Meredith Raspberry. You helped LaQuita in a special way, and she was forever grateful for your help.

To honor LaQuita's wishes, there will be no services. Her remains will be inurned at Hill Crest Memorial Park.

She's finally with the love of her life, Morris, "Somewhere in the Wild Blue Yonder."
