• Obituary. Atlanta, Louisiana - Long-time Winn Parish resident, Artis Monroe Stroud (79), died March 17, 2002, following a long battle with cancer. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2002 in the Atlanta Baptist Church under the direction of Southern Funeral Home, Winnfield, with Dr. Ray Teal, Dr. Kenneth Hall (nephew), Rev. Forrest Hall and Rev. Matthew Endris officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery near Atlanta.
He was a member of the Atlanta Baptist Church, a World War II Navy veteran, and retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie J. and Zona Chelette Stroud; two brothers, Earl P. Stroud, and L. Z. Stroud, and one sister Mae Ommie Vester Stroud.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ethel Hall Stroud; one son, Artis Glen Stroud and his wife, Janice M. Stroud, of Atlanta; two daughters, Nelda S. Edwards and Don L. Edwards of Houston, TX, and Patricia S. Hennigan and husband Lloyd E. Hennigan, Jr. of Jena, LA; three grandchildren, Brian Canerday and wife Joni of Calvin, LA; Monica Stroud James and husband Ty James of Winnfield, LA; and Shelley Stroud Norris and husband Todd Norris of Jena, LA; seven step-grandchildren; four great grandchildren, Mark Canerday, Logan James, Lauren James, and Landry James, and two-step great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: Ty James, Todd Norris, Sammie Kelley, Adrian James, Jeff Walker, David James, Jack McLaren and Bobby Homeyer.
Honorary Pallbearers were: Pete Fowler, C.O. Spikes, Buford Guilliams, Carl Gresham, Jerry Price, Marlin Collins, Troy James, Benny Adams, Robert Barron and Leonard Melton.
